If I go into the Army Reserves and I decide the Army is for me and want to switch to active how long after I get back from BCT/AIT can you switch to Active. Also, how does it affect any bonuses you received from the Reserves. Will any bonuses you get from enlisting Reserves just get deducted from your Active bonuses. Or is there a certain amount of time you dont have to pay any Reserve bonuses back...I heard 18 months from when you sign your contract, but not sure?
ONCE YOU FINISH BASIC/AIT, YOU MUST WAIT 6 MONTHS AFTER YOU RETURN TO YOUR RESERVE UNIT. YOUR RESERVE UNIT MUST THAN BE WILLING TO RELEASE YOU ! IF YOU RECIEVE A BONUS IN THE RESERVE THEY COLLECT THERE MONEY BACK, BUT YOU WILL QUALIFY FOR A ACTIVE DUTY BONUS. SO PRETTY MUCH SAVE YOUR MONEY FROM RESERVES. I HOPE THIS CAN CLEAR UP ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.

I am understanding that they (US Army) are trying to change this, so that if the Soldier does want to go active that they do not recoup the bonus paid by the Reserves.
I have a copy of the latest Bonus recoupment info. It shows that bonuses paid will not be recouped as long as the contract you sign is equal to or longer than the reserve contract your bonus will not be recouped as long as you do not receive a bonus for the new contract. If you would like a copy of the memo from the DA G1 I can send you a copy. However the conditional release policy has recently changed and your conditional release, if you have under 2 years of service, requires USARC approval. Could be a long process. If you have more than 2 years TIS the first General Officer in your chain of command can approve it.
