The only two ways that you can come on active duty is to 1) Come on AD via the RC/AC program, this allows a RC Soldier to get a release from the current RC unit, submit the paperwork to HRC for approval and then enlist for AD. 2) Demob, see a recruiter, and then enlist.
If your MOS is offering a bonus for the NG then it will be tax free providing you reenlist for the Guard. If you do submit the RC/AC packet after you reenlist for the Guard, you will have to pay back the bonus.

Sorry it took a bit to get back to this topic, I tried to search the HRC database for the milper message on the RC/AC program, the last known number that I had was 05-143. That one has expired and I am pretty sure that a new message that pertains to RC/AC has been published. The only difference that I can remember is that a recruiter not a career counselor has to do the enlistment contract. Now back to the post.

The only way that you would be able to receive a tax free bonus while you are deployed is if you reenlist for your National Guard unit. You will not receive a bonus(tax free) to enlist on active duty under the program.
The RC/AC program allows someone like yourself do come to active duty without a break in service, most of the time as the same rank and MOS, depending on strenghts.
Example, you are an 11B and come on active duty under the RC/AC program and you have 17 months of continuous active service (mob time) then more than likely you would be entitled to the 11B bonus as states in the current SRB message as well as the remarks for the HRC message. Again I say that I could not find the current RC/AC message.
Second way to come from reserve staus to active is to see a recruiter, go to MEPS, enlist, and maybe draw a bonus at that time.
Either way you will have to wait until you return stateside to have a recuiter do up the contract.
I hope this helps.

Are there any ways for officers to do a switch during a deployment?
