My husband is in Iraq and he reenlisted a couple of weeks ago. He's a 63m, E4,at six years. His mos is a critical skill so he was told he would get $13000, the contract just said srb. He transfered $19000 of is gi bill to me, so that subtracted $3200. When he got the bounus it was $6800. So he asked the SFC who did his contarct(they have no retention nco) And he said that the yr and eight months remaining on his contract is subtracted from the renlistment time for receiving bonuses. So he received a bonus for 54 months but reenlisted for 72. He has never receive a bounus before so he doesn't know if this is correct.

Yes, this is correct.

Bonuses are paid for additional obligated service or service after the current contract. The military doesn't pay bonuses for service a Soldier already owes; that wouldn't make sense.

It's YOUR career! Take control of it before someone else does.
