Originally posted by 20thSUCKS: so has anyone heard any news in the last couple weeks, the posts kind of died off. Was hoping the CSRB would get paid before I PCSd so that I could invest and buy a house at the new duty station but looks like it won't happen. Any updates would be appreciated.
I don't think they are working on this quite as hard as they want people to think. This is just my opinion. They put out it would take a max of 120 days to fix the problem. It will be 120 days next week since my husband has signed and had his paperwork approved. He is hoping it is paid by the time he returns from his current deployment in 2009!
Since there is a federal law that they cannot double pay, it doesn't look like the CSRB is going to be paid to those indefinite E6s that qualify. The wording needs to be changed and that isn't a simple process. A positive thing to this situation is that 89D is not the only MOS that this mess effects.

What exactly dose the law say about double paying? I am one of those indef e6s and I thought I was going to be paid for 16-22 years. This is getting extremely frustrating. How can you expect a family to wait 4 months with 100k in the balance and not lose some sleep over it. If this falls through i will probably look for employment elsewhere. I dont meen to sound selfish b/c I know that others share this frustration but its good to vent. AAARRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!
It is my understanding of what AR has posted previously regarding the CSRB, that it is a double payment to those already serving under another contract. It is very frustrating. With all the talk that went on before the milper was released, you would have thought that someone would have listened and taken action to try and change things. Yes, there were plenty of rumors about when and who would qualify for the CSRB. But there was also some question as to HOW indefinite soldiers would qualify. People said, and are still saying, that it will be changed. My husband thought that with the CSRB that retirement was no longer a worry. We could just take what we stick in savings every month currently and add it to a very nice lump sum. My husband also thought that what he was to get paid to stay until year 22. I think that there will be a lot of indefinite soldiers that get out at 16. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months.
It is my understanding that the CSRB was to be used for the 89D field to keep in good qaulified Team Leaders...it may actually have just the opposite effect...
Lately it seems like the whole field is slowly going down the pooper...
In a nutshell, they are trying to turn EOD into conventional soldiers and the EOD mission doesn't support that. EOD has no where near the man power to run at the conventional level.
Not to mention the reorganization of all the companies into the "modular" companies and shutting down alot of really good places to PCS. The days of the small, tight knit EOD companies are a thing of the past...
Yeah, I was lucky enough to have been at Moffett before they closed it, when it was a 14 man company that did casual fridays and yet somehow still managed to train and take care of it's people. Two things a lot of these 'modular' companies are lacking in. Good thing I reenlisted! MMMMMMM s@#t sandwich.
I have heard a rumor the last couple of days and am looking for an answer to see if it really is true. Again this is a rumor. Supposedly, there are 89Ds that were already serving indef(not reenlisted when the milper came out and became indef)that slipped through and were paid the CSRB. Currently, the Army isn't paying the rest of the indef E6s. The rumor I heard said that they are going to recoup the money paid to those E6s because, like the rest of the those waiting, they don't/didn't qualify due to the wording. Again this is a RUMOR. Is this possible? I know the military overpays people occasionally and they eventually recoup it. They won't do this, will they? Ouch! My thinking is that it would be more trouble than it is worth. By the time they did get around to recouping the money, someone might have gotten around to changing the wording and the CSRB will be paid out to those still in CSRB limbo. However, what is fair to some should be fair to all no matter what.
theres a few that want to write there Congressmen about this CSRB. Don't give me the selfless service stuff I was told that we were going to get $100,000 for six years and now they say they need some signature from some guy(OSD) that dosen't give a s@!t about anyone but his career. some are being to told they wont see any money until 2012 or later if this guy dosen't sign. WHO'S FIGHTING FOR THIS! ANYONE IMPORTANT!

New question. If one of my guys re-enlisted INDEF for this over here, but is now in Iraq and on Tax-free status, will he still be taxed on this if it is paid in the next few months? Please continue to keep us informed.
Tax status depends on the location of the actual reenlistment. If you reenlisted in the states, you'll be taxed, regardless of when the bonus is actually received.
