My husband is a few months shy of hitting his 10 yr mark. He recently reup'd for 6 yrs (2 yrs short of current ets). We were told there would be a 21K bonus and that was on his contract. (He went under choice of duty for Europe). After 3 yrs of constant deploy, we want the hospital post we got in Europe. After he went looking for the bonus, we found out that they had declined it (and never told us). He received a 10K bonus in fall of 2005 when transferred to active duty from Reserves. He was prior service of almost 7 yrs earlier. They said no 2nd bonus for Zone B, even after telling us for months that it would be fine. He is 68W. Anything we can do?

Wow, this is a pretty scattered post.

When did your husband reenlist? (You said recently, but you mentioned "after 3 years ...")

So, your husband probably receive a BSSRB (Broken Service Selective Reenlistment Bonus) when re-renter service in 2005. If he had between 6 and 10 years active service at that point, he would have used his B Zone SRB entitlement. You can only receive each zone once.

If your husband is entitled to a C Zone SRB (in a few months when he goes over 10 years), than he can get that.

Now, if your husband recently reenlisted and was told he would be getting a B Zone bonus (and it is in his contract; first page and last page), then your husband does have an option.

He can actually request that the years over service be reduced from six to four or less, depending the option selected and his desires. Again, this is ONLY if the SRB (not amount) was put in the contract.

It's YOUR career! Take control of it before someone else does.
