I am a PFC deployed to iraq and was planing on reenlisting for 15k when I was told by my S3 here that they are no longer offering this bonus because the army met its numbers for the year. Is this true? If so will the army change this?

I have been in the field for the past week, but after some research, the bonus for deployed Soldiers has not gone away.

The Army has met its mission, but deployed Soldiers are not affected with bonuses as Soldiers not deployed.

Also, your S3, although very smart in their jobs, are NOT the subject matter experts with regards to retention. Go see your Career Counselor.

thank you for the reply the only career counselor they have here is in the National Guard so I don't know if he will be of any help. Do you think its better to wait to see what happens in OCT with bonuses... or should I just take advantage of the 15k?

I really wish I had a "Crystal Ball" so I could really healp every Soldier make the best possible decisions, but it's still in the works. haha

Seriously, it all comes down to what you want to do. It's one of those situations hwere you get what you get at the time you reenlist.

That being said, the Army has made it's mission for this Fiscal Year and a new year begins next week. It's doubtful a deployed bonus will decrease, so will it increase? I don't know, but if I where in your situation, I'd wait a week, but I would stay in contact with the Career Counselor or Reenlistment NCO that is handling my contract just in case something feels like it may change.
