I have a soldier that was told she would have to repay a bonus if she took the ROTC active duty option. I tried to look up AR 601-280 but my comp doesn't want to work with me. Her source of info was one of the officers that taught ROTC.

Other than a pregnancy sep, what circumstances would a soldier have to repay their bonus?

If she recieved the bonus before she was slotted for the program, then she does not have to repay that bonus.

Officers that tought ROTC: 0

Your soldier: Stays PAID!

AR 601-280, Chapter 5, paragraph 5-13c states:
Recoupment of an unearned bonus is not required if the Soldier is separated to permit acceptance of a commission or warrant appointment or to enter a program leading to a commission or warrant appointment. Entitlement to additional unpaid bonus is suspended and will terminate upon commissioning or appointment.

... and all selective reenlistment bonuses are paid in one Lump Sum Payments; no longer installments (unless you are previously owed some) (hence there is no Termination to unpaid parts)

Gamesness,

To try and answer your question at the bottom...

- Being Military Intell and LOSING your Secret or TS clerance...thats one way.

- Being a 68WM6 (Licenced Practical Nurse)..and Losing your Nursing License.

(thats just 2...i could think of, sure theres a BUNCH BUNCH more)

basically whatever would make you NOT able to perform in the MOS that you got an SRB for.

ROTC Active Duty? ......... Is that a Reenlistment option?

Most soldiers I know that apply for ROTC are either in the IRR or Reserves/ NG.

In order to get accepted to Green to Gold active duty option, you must sign a memorandum that states the following;

3. I understand that if I have received an Enlistment bonus or Selective Reenlistment bonus, I must give the end date of the bonus and will add the following statement: “I understand that if selected for this training, I will refund the percentage of the bonus equal to the percentage of obligated service I will not perform in the specified MOS. My eligibility for bonus pay ceases on the date I departed my current duty station.”

This can be found on the rotc website here http://www.rotc.usaac.army.mil/scholarship_HPD2/green/S...%20ADO%20Program.doc

So yes, the soldier would have to repay the bonus. They must waive their right to keep the bonus in order to apply.

Can't speak for OCS, but when I went warrant, I still had the better part of 2 years left on my previous reup contract with bonus and I did not have to repay anything back. Hope this helps.

Re-read the red highlighted portion.

If you reenlist for two years, and you don't start the program for a year, then you only have to refund a year or so of that bonus, NOT THE WHOLE THING. Good reference, SGT King; bad interpretation.

I do not recall ever saying that you have to pay back the entire bonus. The question was do you have to pay it back at all. Of course you get to keep the portion that you have already earned. I was merely pointing out why AR 601-280 does not apply in this case.

I went through the process of applying for this program last year and it was explained to me then. The bonus issue is why I didnt do it.

You don't have to recall it if you don't want to... but you still said it. Does that not imply that you have to repay the entire bonus? Confused

"My eligibility for bonus pay ceases on the date I departed my current duty station.”

Hmmm....ok got that. However who cares if at THAT point you are "eligible" or not. You already got paid b/c the SRB is in LUMP SUM.

Heres My caviot quetion:

The entire time you are going GREEN TO GOLD..lets say the 2 yr active duty program. While you are doing that, you are still an 88M (or whatever your mos is). You are NOT an officer till you complete your degree. Because if you FAIL lets say your SERNIOR YR of COLLEGE at the END of Green to Gold...then you go back in the army and finish your time as that MOS you are/were

Soooooo......would the pro-rate date of payback percentage not be the date of commissioning.....and NOT the date of entering the G2G program?

....whew....I'm glad there was no additional memo like that for IPAP. I report this Friday....and if so the army-REEPO man would be on his way to get a nice Infiniti G35 Coupe.

My situation is similar, but I am in the National Guard, and did not do the Green-to-Gold program. I re-enlisted for 6 years and received the bonus, then contracted with ROTC (no scholarship). Will I have to pay back this bonus, and if so, how and when will it be taken?
Also, will it accrue interest?

You'll keep your bonus.
