Your reenlistment bonus will show up on your LES, but you will not necessarily get your bonus on a payday. Bonuses are paid when they are released.

Got my bonus money today and it was less than the Career Counselor said it would be. I know it is just taxes, but does anyone know the percentage of taxes that they take out. The CC said 25%.

Bonuses are taxed at 25% (which is less than your federal taxes - 28%).

Also, some Soldiers get state taxes taken out.

If I reenlist today, then I am deployed into a tax free zone by the end of the month, thereby making Feb Taxfree, does that mean that my bonus is tax free?

You will not get paid the bonus tax-free until you begin your tour.

You can, however, get a tax-free bonus on the tail end of your deployment.

Why? The DFAS system will not recognize you as tax-free until AFTER you've been deployed.

So, I will get reimbursed the taxed amount once DFAS has caught up with the fact that I was taxfree in Februrary?

No, you are not qualified for a tax-free bonus until you begin your tax free duty (usually upon arrival in Kuwait)

Just to clarify, I think you understood it wrong. I believe he was saying that if you reenlist on the 5th of the month and deploy on the 20th of the month for instance, you won't get your tax free bonus. But if you are reenlisting at the end and redeploying you can get it.

In other words, you don't have to wait until the end of your deployment to reup. If you can wait until after you arrive in Kuwait, you should be able to reenlist without any issues once you've in processed through there. You will then get the tax free bonus.

Save you 25% according to what army reenlistment is saying too.
