To shed a lil' more light on this. ICM, and ACM are "Decorations" and not "Awards" therefore they have no point value for promotion.

Awards worth points that I know and others in my sections know are worth points are things that you do personnally. Like your AGCM, AAM's, ARCOMS. Look on the Promotion Point work sheets if they still work off of those and it should tell you what is good. I use that outline all the time and have yet to be denied points.

Your ERB will show the Iraq Campaign Medal as ICM-CS initially. When you update your ERB, the clerk will simply place a 2nd award in eMILPO to reflect your second "campaign star".

Thanks.

I'll see if I can have my S-1 add that tomorrow.

They may need the deployment orders when you arrived in country and left country. Although, that should already be in the deployment section of your ERB. Best of luck!

Yep, that's all good to go. Plus, they deployed with us so they'd know the dates, or at least I hope they would.

Check the Milper messages again, the ICM and ACM will not be awarded without a star on it.
1 star per every campaign you particapated in.
I was there doing 2 campaigns, I am authorized to wear 2 stars.

Ok here is an even better question!!

I was there OCT 04- Oct 05. And again I was there Oct 07- July 08. I got a GWOTEM for the first tour. Now I am gettin an ICM for the second tour. Now I now automatically I will get 1 star in the ICM regardless, just for having it. But do I get another campaign star for the Oct 04- Oct 05 deployment since I was there for a different campaign? Or am I just allowed the GWOTEM for that campaign?

That my friends is the question of the day!!

No, you'd only be allowed to wear one campaign star on the ICM. The GWOTEM would cover your first campaign/deployment. You cannot receive two awards for the same period of service.

I am in the same scenario as you. I have the GWOTEM for my JAN04-FEB05 deployment and the ICM for my most recent deployment.

You can, however, convert your GWOTEM into a second bronze star by having your ERB updated. You'll need to submit a 4187 to your S-1 requesting this.

Okay I figure I'd throw this into there. I qualified for 3 campaign stars. Now because of my last deployment I was able to get the gwotem but I never took it cause I thought I was getting out. So when I went to S-1 to add the campaign stars they asked me if I wanted to trade one of my stars for the gwotem. I laughed and said seriously and well I guess he was serious cause he printed out the erb with the gwotem and 2 campaign stars on my ICM. So for anyone out there that is elgible for the gwotem and never took it you are able to get it with a little swap-a-roo.

Exactly like the last post, they should dump the GWOTEM since they came out with the campaign stars.

I'm sorry, but the last time I checked, no campaign stars were eligible for the ICM. Here is an excerpt from AR 600-8-22 regarding service stars:

6–8. Service stars
a. Service stars are worn on campaign and service medals to denote participation in a named campaign (for
example, Southwest Asia Service Medal) and on the service ribbons to denote an additional award (for example the
National Defense Service Medal). The service star is a bronze or silver five-pointed star 3/16-inch in diameter. A silver
star is worn instead of five bronze service stars. The bronze service star is also affixed to the Parachutist Badge to
denote participation in a combat parachutist jump, retroactive to 7 December 1941 and the Military Free-Fall
Parachutist Badge to denote participation in a combat military free-fall jump, retroactive to 1 October 1994. See
paragraph 8–10 for criteria for award of the Combat Parachutist Badge and paragraph 8–15 for the Military Free Fall
Parachutist Badge, combat jump. See AR 670–1 for proper wear of the service stars.
b. Service stars are authorized for wear on the following campaign and service medals and or ribbons:
(1) World War I Victory Medal.
(2) American Defense Service Medal.
(3) American Campaign Medal.
(4) Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
(5) European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
(6) Korean Service Medal.
(7) Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
(8) Vietnam Service Medal.
(9) National Defense Service Medal.
(10) Humanitarian Service Medal.
(11) Prisoner of War Medal.
(12) Southwest Asia Service Medal.
(13) Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

Might want to check MILPER messages because you're behind the power curve. Campaign stars have been approved since April.

Campaign phases
A directive issued by the Department of Defense April 16 designates three phases of Operation Enduring Freedom as qualifying for a campaign star:

• Liberation of Afghanistan (Sept. 11, 2001–Nov. 30, 2001)
• Consolidation I (Dec. 1, 2001-Sept. 30, 2006)
• Consolidation II (Oct. 1, 2006-TBD)

The four qualifying phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom are:

• Liberation of Iraq (March 19, 2003-May 1, 2003)
• Transition of Iraq (May 2, 2003-June 28, 2004)
• Iraqi Governance (June 29, 2004-Dec. 15, 2005)
• National Resolution (Dec. 16, 2005-TBD)

I was deployed from apr 03 to mar 04 and then nov 05 to nov 06 and meet the requirements for 3 stars...

Me and my PSG were having this discussion this morning. He was saying that the ICM itself counts as 1 "campaign" and that I only get to wear 2 stars instead of 3 on my ICM

I may have heard it wrong but someone else was saying that if I wanted to wear all 3 I had to take off my GWOTEM or something like that...

Any insight would be helpful
