Dress Blues are more common among the officer and senior NCO ranks, as of right now. Mostly because of the cost. Yes, it is a personal choice to buy them, all at your own expense. According to the Army Times Roll Eyes Dress Blues will be an issue item in the near future (think 1-3 years). The Blues are an all rank item. While they are made for all ranks, it is uncommon to see a E1-E4 in them. Again, with the cost.

I was actually hoping that the Top Army Brass would select the World War Two style uniform. Looks much better than the Class A greens and if they want the Army in total blues they need to address other issues like mis-matched combat equipment, new gear, for all units regardless if they are FORSCOM or CSS/CS.

THe dress blues you can wear them if you can afford them, pretty much.

The new uniform will reflect the Blues. They are called the ASU, I believe, Army Service Uniform and will replace the Class A's.
The Dress Blues will not be the issue item.

And if you are already in the Army then just like some of us had to buy the new PTs and the ACUs, we are going to have to buy the ASUs too.

Hello, I've just bought my first set of dress blues to wear at my buddy's wedding. My question is are nameplates to be worn no the white shirts?? There isn't a pocket flap like the green shirt and AR670-1 appears to be silent on the issue. Can someone help me out?

Also, are DUI's worn the blue coat?

Thanks

Sorry buddy I had to chuckle here. It's FISCAL year not PHYSICAL. As in, October is when the new money and budget is allocated based on the previous year.

The reason the fiscal year was incorporated is so that the budgeting and whatnot activity associated with the new fiscal year does not coincide with the ALREADY busy tax season. Smiler

Currently we have:
Green service uniform (AKA class A and class B). This is technically the default Army uniform. It is comparable to a business suit.

Green dress uniform (aka dress greens). This is a modification of the green uniform for more formal occasions. There is a different shirt, more tie options, and restrictions on the bling-bling.

Blue dress uniform. Even more formal than the dress greens, this is the Army's equivalent of a tux.

White dress uniform. The equivalent of a summer tuxedo; this uniform is quite rare.

The plan is to replace all these a blue uniform that may be worn as a service uniform, or modified as a dress uniform.
The last I heard was it would be mandatory by 2011. That's still quite a ways off and they haven't even finalized the design.

This is a ten level task
