When I first got issued the ACU, we all had to start wearing them the same day. We couldn't wear them before that day. They wanted to make sure that everyone knew how to wear them properly. The only problem with that though was that there wasn't any written policy (that anyone knew about anyway) at the time to say what was right or wrong. This resulted in different units coming up with thier own ways to wear the uniforms. I think next time they should put uniforms in the regs before they give them to soldiers. If you don't you end up with a lot of confused soldiers.
And by the way, you can wear the LBE / LCE with the ACU.

There was a soldier that reported to my unit on Friday. He is fresh from AIT, and was issued the ACU for his clothing issue. My CSM told him "I don't care that is all you have, you will not wear your ACU's in my unit. You will report to work on Monday in BDU's" Now this soldier has to go and buy more uniforms. Even though there is some regulations out about the ACU's (including that mixed wear of the BDU's and ACU's among unit personnel is authorized), units still tend to make their own policy.
This doesen't just stop with uniforms, many units have "The Army Way", and the way the unit wants to do it, regardless of what the regs say. But that......that is another can of worms.
If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody is around to hear it........................does anyone care?

Foward, Tell your 1SG that all soldiers coming out of AIT are issued ACUs. And if he wants that soldier to get BDUs, then he should authorize that soldier to get them ISSUED from clothing sales. Yes, it CAN be done. That soldier was ISSUED ACUs and to MAKE him buy BDUs is not taking care of him.

Grlrplmstr is right. That CSM is "ate up" and that should not stand, your IG should here about that if your CSM dosen't come off of that. At the very least the soldier will get reembursed. What a great welcome for that soldier to his first unit, that's the kinda mess that makes good soldiers leave the Army.
So, he is probably an E1, not making that much money, just got to his first unit with only a little bit of clothes and the uniforms he was issued, only to find out that he has to drop a couple of hundred bucks on new uniforms?
I am sure that this is not the only instance of this out there.
