True story: I saw a female SFC walking out of the building I used to work at in MD with hair that looked like orange cheetos hanging off of her head. It almost made me not want to eat cheetos for a very long time after that....
And I saw another female SFC-type with hair that was braided into a very intricate lattice-work design on the back of her head and spilling out into bangs and rolls on top. Seems a bit faddish to me, but I'm sick of getting nasty attitudes from people when I bring up their lack of adherence to Army regs. The one thing that burned me most is when I was in the gym with my section, and this LT with the chunkiest highlights I have ever seen (I'm talking bright blonde rectangles) comes up to me and starts going on about how my hair is in a ponytail and how that is unauthorized... my hair is bobbed to just below my ears, so keeping my hair out of my face with a rubber band does not qualify as a pony tail, IMO.
This topic gets my blood boiling, heh.

Why don't they just make female soldiers get haircuts just like the male soldiers??

Joking in case you are all wondering.

yea, there seem to be alot of higher ranking females who wear their hair, and even nails and makeup for that matter how they want. i guess they figure that because they are so high ranking that nobody will say anything to them...it gets on my nerves too.. and the lts now days, dont even get me started on them...most of them have that im too good for you attitude and whenever you try to tell them something they just look at you stupid...if you are going to correct someone =, make sure you are within reg yourself, lt or not...as i am sure she wasnt when she tried to correct you...thats a subject that gets me pissed as well

I hate that crap too. I had a DS at AIT who had her hair in a pony tail. Now granted, it wasn't a huge one hanging down but some days she would wear it in a mini-bun or just let it be in a ponytail. But if I had one little strand coming out of my bun (and I'm NOT exaggerating), there would be hell to pay. And the thing is, I have no problem being corrected on something. Hey, the regs are there for a reason and since I signed on the dotted line, I'll be happy to follow them.
Yeah sure, it sucks sometimes to not be able to wear a pretty nail polish (that's not clear or barely noticible pink) or have pretty tips. But hey, this is a volunteer Army right? I will continue to follow the regulations to the best of my ability until the day I retire.

I hate double standards.

My two cents and please ignor the spelling and gramer errors. I understand were you guys are coming from. My natural hair color is a strawberry blonde and is naturally rather curly. The last couple of monthes i have been getting harreshed about my hair ties ( which are the natural color matching ones at the px) no matching my hair color the reds were too red and the blondes were too light so i dyed my hair red then got harrashed about my hair color beig too red. which drove me up the wall the color calmed down after 2 weeks and now i am going to the board on the 5th (found out on monday) so i am thinking about dying it back so the Persident of the board doesnt throw me out. What pisses me off about the whole thing is the do as i say not as i do mentality that some female get about this reg. Needless to say some one has bugged me about my hair since i enlisted.

I've seen a female SSG who works at Post HQ who wears black lipstick and her hair in a huge messy pseudo-bun/ponytail. My battle buddy concluded that she must use some "thick kneepads" in order to not have gotten in trouble already.

As for the haircut thing, of course a female with a male haircut wouldn't present a feminine appearance. BUT, on the other hand I myself have had very very very very very short hair (which led to people calling me "sir" even though I clearly had SPC rank on my BDU collar...) and I liked it because it was low maintenance and looked nice. The only problem with that is if you are trying to grow it out again, it will eventually reach that awkward length where it's too long to leave down and too short to put up.

I cut my hair short just before I joined the Army and it was nice during BCT and AIT, but once I got to my unit...
It was a pain in the total A$$!! I got tired of looking like a 14 year old boy and getting made fun of for it, so I started to grow it out.

I got to that really annoying length, but I just made sure I used gel and spray and made it so no one could say anything. I even had a few female SGT's try, but I carried AR-670-1 with me in my pocket.
But it was very annoying to try and keep it looking within the standards.

Now though, it looks great and I just need a few hair ties to make it look nice.

I see females all the time with fancy brightly painted nails with white tips, bright neon lipstick colors, huge hairstyles that makes their berets look like trash, uniforms 3 sizes to small, earrings, huge rings,purses....UGH!!! If you want to be a girly girl, no problem. But WAIT till your OFF DUTY!!! This pisses me off beyond anything.
