According to the original MILPER message concerning ACUs, as well as the powerpoint video concerning such posted to this site (had to dig to find it):

quote:
Soldiers may wear commercial boots of a design similar to that of the Army Combat Boot (tan), 8 to 10 inches in height as authorized by the commander. The boots must be made of tan rough side out cattle hide leather, with a plain toe, and have a tan, rubber outsole. No steel toes.

It doesn't say specifically the height, but that's the only concern. If it's not 8 inches tall, it isn't within reg.

You might try looking at the M-9 assault boots instead, if you just like the Bates build and brand:

I'm considering getting a pair of Bates M-9 boots since I don't think my feet can handle the WOCS road march in issue boots. Can someone give me a review of them?

I prefer the Blackhawk Desert Ops boots myself, the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever owned by far!

They are sized just like regular shoes...not the weird way the military sizes their boots. Example: I wear a size 10 running shoe, my blackhawk boots are a size 10...unlike the size 8 1/2 I have to get with the standard issue boots.

Keep in mind I've heard some words (from 1SG's and CSM's) that ar 670-1 will be adding that you can not wear sneaker style boots any more. Something to check into a little before dropping a lot of $ on new boots.

I have seen powerpoint presentations at 2 different posts that show "sneaker type boots" that are authorized and unauthorized...the unauthorized boots had a couple things on them that you aren't supposed to have anyways, like zippers and velcro. If they didn't have that they were too short or too tall.
