O.K. all. I know I am openeing another can of worms with this one, but here goes. This thread is for discussion of promotion counselings.

For example, you have a soldier who is an E-4 and in the primary zone for promotion to E-5, and may have been in the zone for some time. All NCOs should know that there is a requirement, by regualtion to counsel these soldiers at a minimum, quarterly, to inform them that they are not being recommended to appear before the promotion board, and why. In my unit, our CSM has required that we do this counseling monthly.

Question to all of you is,.......how many of you do this at all?

Question also to soldiers who fall in this category, how many of you have received this type of counseling ever, and if you have, was it continued on a semi-regular basis?

Just curious, but again, I have a funny feeling,.........

As a CPL I had a prior service PV2 that met the TIG and TIS requirements but I didn't recommend her for promotion. She had been counseled several times, verbally and formally, about leaving the section area without letting anyone know, which cause two of the other soldiers to go find her and that killed training time. I appointed a SPC to train this new PV2 on the specifics of her job but the PV2 didn't want to learn. She had only enlisted for a 1 year (Try-One) tour in the guard and only did it to help her brother (CPT commanding another company in the same battalion) get a bullet comment on his OER about supporting recruiting. It was great fun.

I've always known that, but we don't have a Specialist that's in the PZ right now. However, we do have a Specialist who is flagged and is on the secondary zone....

I am wondering Olionger, why are you "appointing" anyone to do your job? As a Junior NCO that you are, you ought to be the one with that soldier, not delagating to another E-4. They (Guard probably) laterally promoted you to CPL for a reason, so dont let those CPL stripes get too heavy for ya, (maybe they should take them and give them to that high speed SPC that you "appointed"...)
