The Army Values are flawed.

I would say it is more dependant on the leader, the type of squad he wants to end up running, and a reaction to the individual soldier. Different people react differently to different methods. This can't even begin to be argued.

I have found in my experience that smoking a soldier works great. It doesn't work on everyone, but the only ones I have seen it didn't work with were soldiers with attitudes and mouths with no respect for their NCOs that shouldn't be called soldiers anyway.

If I did something for my gunner to drop me, it was because I usually did something to deserve it and I was paying attention 100%. I never thought, man why is this guy doing this to me? All I did was the opposite of what he told me to do. Damn!

I spent 6 years as an E4 and below because to be straight forward I refused to listen and therefore lost rank twice. Now that I am an NCO I prefer to not smoke my Soldiers because smoking never worked for me, actually it made me laugh. I much rather have my Soldiers explain to me why they did the things they did and whatever corrective action I do impose directly relates to the infraction, I feel that this creates a better understanding between Soldier and Leader.

So the fact that you didn't listen and had to lose rank twice is why the Army Values are flawed?

The Army Values aren't flawed period, the flaw lies with the soldiers who do not value them.

Funny you are so quick to judge. I never said the Army Values were flawed, truthfully I believe them to be vital. I was making a point when I wrote that I was demoted twice. The point is that I required a different form of leadership, counseling, and discipline. Smoking did not work, yelling did not work, NJP did not work making me aware, educating, developing me worked. This is the same style of leadership that I use on my Soldiers. So lady my big girl panties are on but perhaps you should see if yours are on the right way

Hehe I love it how old posts just get brought up out of the blue. Well here's my 2 cents... smoking soldiers is important to me if done correctly. If you tell a soldier to push, then pay them no real attention until you decide they are done it takes away from the attention side. The thing to remember is that there is a limit, and you need to do it correctly. Smoking a soldier doesn't (in my mind) do what the previous posts said... it takes a soldier back to the beginning of his enlistmnt when DS McKillyourfaceoff would scream through their souls while they were in the front lean n rest. It also doesn't leave a paper trail that will stick with them and make them look ate up, which makes you look ate up for not fixing him. Or her. Ah... hope I didn't write something in my post that will make someone mad... seems all too common on this forum. Someone reads something wrong and wants blood. Virtual blood.
