I have 9 months left till my DEROS is up. On average, when have you received orders for a PCS move from Germany/Europe/Overseas? I am interested to find out. Thanks,

Anywhere from six months to a month out.

Average is about 3 to 4 months from DEROS.

I was curious about the same thing, so thank you Chief. Do you usually get PCS'd around the Deros date, or is that just the date you are eligible to move?

Also let me ask this. My DEROS is Jan of 2016, My RCP is also 2016. If I don't make E-5, I will be pushed out, however, I am contracted through 2017. Would it be possible to talk to Branch and try to get PCS'd close to where we plan to settle if I do get out? I'm hearing that it's possible that they may just keep me here in Hawaii until I ETS.Just curious.

As far as RCP goes, the army keeps you to your contractual ETS date unless they plan on doing an early involuntary separation for you or you get in trouble to bust you out of the army early. Basically, you serve what you signed up for and if you do not have the service remaining requirement to PCS they will involuntarily extend you in your duty station. You must have 12 months on station to PCS, so if your remaining obligation to the military is enough to PCS, then you get to PCS. If not, you have to stay. The only way around this is a curtailment or a compassionate reassignment.

For over here in Europe, most people fly out on their DEROS date. It is not a guarantee though.

Hopefully it works out for you. A lot has to depend on your MOS. I'ma 68Y. Our E5 promotions have been as low as 38 points the last two months since we need people. They gave my newest NCO an automatic promotion without going to the board. For E6, being there is only 60 slots and only 10 E7 slots, no one has been promoted in a year. I am currently just sitting on the list since May...Good luck, but remember, the way the system is you may be the greatest soldier out there, but be screwed because of over staffing in your MOS

RCP is 8 years for Specialist and you should get that. How long you been in?

When I was in Germany, I was able to get early reporting on my orders and with my 40 days of PCS leave, I basically left two months earlier before my third year on station.

Also, it will be nice to get stationed near a place you expect to ETS to, but remember needs of the Army and that the government will pay to ETS you to your home of record.

With this day and age with the internet, looking for employment in whatever location you desire is much easier than before.

Chief already hit on it, but remember the Army will basically PCS you to your home of record when you ETS so don't worry about moving yourself from Hawaii.

Caveat to this is that the Army will be particularly cruel if you get chaptered in this case. I had two soldiers chaptered during the sequestration and the Army put them on a greyhound bus to their home of record.
