I am just wondering what the process is to become an Army Ranger. I am aware you first go to basic, then AIT, then Airborne and then RIP, but what do you do if you pass RIP? Do you go straight to Ranger School? Also, is the physical aspect of Airborne good enough to prepare you for RIP. If I branched infantry, would much of the material be what I would need to know for Ranger School? I am interested in joining the army in 1-2 years and based on reading numerous articles about Ranger School, it sounds like an exciting challenge. Thanks

I can't believe nobody answered this question. I'm not sure if you found your answer, or if you're even still around.

After you graduate from RIP, you go to a Ranger Battalion. There you will spend your time getting the shit smoked out of you and other crazy stuff. When they feel you can go to Ranger School and pass, you can go.

But, say you don't go to RIP, and you go to a different unit, you can always put a packet in for Ranger School. Most likely, you will attend Pre Ranger School, which is kinda like RIP, and I heard maybe harder. Then you pass that and go back to your unit. Then, they will send you to Ranger School.

Upon completion, you just go back to your unit wearing a tab.
