I'm an 11B2V, 3 years TIS. I'm putting in an OCS packet and have the following already:

Ranger qualified
Airborne qualified
1 year rated time as a Sgt Team Leader
15 Months deployment to Iraq
2 purple hearts
1 bronze star with v (pending approval)
Bachelors Degree (accredited college)

I'm aiming for MP or IN classing though MP would be my preference. Any MP's out there who can give guidance on the garrison life of an MP officer? I've seen them plenty over here running convoy support and detainee centers.

Also any feedback on availability of MP schools. I love the infantry side, but am looking at something that may provide some post service education and opportunities. Plus I'm a bit tired of getting blown up and shot. But that's an entirely different story.

Thanks.

Sgt Soler

I was in a MP unit for 3 years and let me tell you in Garrison you dont get holidays, anniversaries, bdays off, your weekends most of the time consist of a Monday and Tuesday or some other day of the week off and might even end up going to the range during that day b/c thats the only time the range is running.

If you are a bit tired of getting blown up and shot, maybe MP is not such a good choice since you would do convoy security and such all the time. Good luck in your career.

Fair enough advice on the work week. In theater I have no doubt that all MOS's are at risk of injury, though I'd rather be in a combat MOS for sheer ability to coordinate and return effective fire than a straight support element.

But I appreciate the work week comments Smiler.

I'm a MP been one for 8 years. Going OCS the chances are only 5 - 15% you'll get commissioned as MP, its a popular branch and West Point and ROTC get picks before OCS. Second, TransAm95NCO, is not 100% accurate, as an ENLISTED, if you go to a Corps Support or Detachment then you will not get weekends/holidays off. But as an OFFICER, you actually get the weekends and holdiays off, the reason being is that ENLISTED, work law enforcement and do all the police stuff, OFFICERS do not work law enforcement except the once or twice a month as a MP Duty Officer (similar to SDO), or if they work at the PMO, even then all MP officers do is Administrative law enforcement you won't get to patrol, k-9, mpi or any of that. If you want that then stay enlisted and reclass or get out and do it in the civilian world. Hope this helps.

One more thing, MP officers are just like any other officer in the rest of the branches and as far as law enforcement schools go, not too many offered to Officers, and also just FYI, if you ask most Civilian Police Dept's they'd rather higher an Army Cook then a MP, Mp's are trained differently and its hard to train an old dog new tricks.
