How hard is it to get a secret Clearance?

I was thinking of trying to go through the IPAP, and one of the requirements was to start a secret clearance.

Pretty easy. Some paperwork involved, but you'll feel better once it's completed.

Go see your S-2.

Some Paperwork is about the understatement of the year!! It's a lot of paperwork...and a huge pain in the butt...

Still do it...it's not that bad, i just finished mine, and I am still disgruntled!

A recommendation to ANY SOLDIER:

Initiate paperwork for a secret clearance, time yesterday. Yes, ALL officers need a secret clearance, and several enlisted jobs.

It's VERY VALUABLE when you get out, and it's FREE to get WHILE you are in.
Yet another great free benefit.

good stuff:

Like AR said: Have all your soldiers see the S-2 shop and start initiating one, time.....yesterday.

Takes over a year to get one now as well from the time it's submitted, took 16 months for mine. You will get an indef interim until your clearance is approved.

Using e-QIP which all units should be using, it goes rather quick. From processing time until clearance being granted is usually 6 months. My SCI took only 5 months!

This will probably only be helpful for soldiers that are enlisting right now not for anyone who is already enlisted. But, when I enlisted my first mos was to be MI so I did all the paperwork for top secret clearance before I enlisted. I was told it's much easier to do while your enlisting then after you are in. Upon getting to my first duty station everyone at the S2 shop was rather amazed at how an 88M got top secret clearance.

eQIP is helpful if you S2 and the Soldier is not lazy. If you have an interest in your career, you will fix it. I could do it for you, but I would still have the problem of taking your fingerprints!
