I am currently at Fort Benning slated to graduate OCS on 8/21 and originally I was told that if I had enough time in between BOLCI and BOLCII I would be able to just go across the street and jump into the next airborne class. Then later I was told that it still wouldn't be a problem for me to get into an airborne slot but that I would first have check in to my BOLCIII site (Fort Eustis I am branched transportation) since that is where I will be snowbirding until my BOLCII date which is in November. Now I'm being told that I will only be able to take airborne if assigned to an airborne unit (I have no idea where I will be assigned at this point), I was interested in taking as many classes as possible during my down time and was just curious if anyone has had any experience in this area. Like I said originally it sounded to me that pretty much if any officer wanted to go airborne or air assault all they had to do express interest and they could go.

Anyway any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

If you have a chance, go across the street and talk with the Airborne or Ranger Training units (the small white building near the field and 30ft towers with all the Airborne stuff) and express interest and see if they can work magic. I know guys who did that, although not OCS, but were right away signed up for the next class of RIP and Airborne!

Although, being transportation, may limit you to what schools you may access as you may not have a need for Airborne training. It seems Air Assault would be better as it involves transportation of many items.
