I've got a single, 22 year old, E-5 soldier who came up to me with a family dilemna. His divorced mother is in a bit of a financial hardship and my soldier wants to know if he can list her as his dependent so that he can provide her with the extra pay that he will get. I'm not sure what can be done about this, but I told him that I would get some info over the weekend. Also, he is stationed here in FL but his mother lives in AZ and plans to stay there, if that makes a difference.

Is anyone familiar with something like this that they can fill me in on it?

Thank you,

I know a soldier that got custody of his brothers child. I know one pre-requsite was the person had to be in the house hold for some reason. He had to get court ordes stating he had custody. I hope that helps out.

Thanks for the response. I did find out that JAG needs to be involved somehow, so I recommended my soldier to go to talk with them.
