He will get time in the evenings right before he goes to sleep to read and write letters. That is if he isnt falling asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. Yes he can tell you what he is doing in his training. Also on the website goarmy.com there is a section that will tell you and give you some video of what they do in each phase of basic.

Not during his Basic Training. When he goes to his Advance Individual Training (AIT)/Initial Entrance Training (IET) he should be able to be on pass later on down the phases of either a 5 or 6....

He's prolly talking about "fire guard" unless they have a new name for it now. Everyone takes a turn on a shift to watch for fire or whatever. It's all a part of the training process.

technically the war is over, however we are not going to bring all of our troops back home until we are certain the Iraqi Army can handle themselves...

the insurgants are shooting themselves in the foot ... we have publicly stated that once the Iraqi Army is strong enough in number and training, we will leave ... the insurgants then kill Iraqi Soldiers, which forces us to train more which in turn makes us stay longer ...

Korea is an actual tour, you are sent here for one year. Iraq is a deployment, you go for anywhere from 6 to 18 months (averaged). The difference? People are deploying from Korea to go to Iraq.

The North Korean threat does not affect us at the moment. Personally, in my opinion, I don't think it will.

Absolutely, the key is they're deploying to Iraq. [b:d6fb15ff30]There's a lot of service members that think being in Korea is a "deployment." [/b:d6fb15ff30]I told the people I knew, that Korea is a hardship tour and places like Iraq and Bosnia is deployment areas. We get COLA and they get tax exemption and hazard pay...etc

I just looked all over CNN.com, and found no reference to this alleged missle. Also, being in South Korea, we would definately know if that happened .. it would be over every TV and radio station 24-7.

also, firing the missle over Japan means they were planning on the missle flying over the Pacific ocean to hit the west coast. I was in a plane flying at 400mph and it still took 13 hours to get from Seattle to Tokyo ... a missle would not have the fuel capacity to make that trip, and even if it did our satellites would pick it up before it got anywhere close.

not to mention that if they did that, I would worry more about Japan than the US ... they are RIGHT THERE. And Japan owned Korea for a good number of years, so they know the terrain.

Drill Sergeants like to scare privates sometimes ... North Korea is one of those things that no one is going anywhere until something happens. And so far, nothing has happened.
