My granddaughter is in the 2nd week of AIT at Goodfellow AFB. Her MOS is 98C. Apparently last week she and two other privates left post out of uniform after lights out to go to Denny's. When she got back several drill sergeants were waiting for her. With the holiday weekend she doesn't find out what her punishment is until tomorrow. She did lose her position as squad leader.

Is she likely to lose her one stripe, her security clearance and get kicked out of the school and reassigned to another MOS?

I'm disappointed in her but I remember being 17 and thinking I could whip the system. I just hope she hasn't totally blown her potential Army career at this early stage.

If this is the first time, there probably won't be any permenant damage (it is possible, but I think the cadre will be a little understanding too).

Whatever you do don't tell her that. There is a very important lesson that is best learned if she thinks she could be severely punished.

Thank you for your input. I'm not going to tell her, but I wanted to know for myself. Your response is reassuring so I guess her family and I will just wait til we hear from her as to the outcome of her escapade.

My hope is that the punishment will be severe enough to impress her but not so severe that it impairs her future because I think she has the potential to be a very good soldier. But then I may be prejudiced since it is my granddaughter!

Thanks again.

Aren't all Grandparents like this? I know mine were. Don't worry she will more than likely be fine. We had someone do the same thing when I was in AIT all that happened to her was restriction and extra duty.

I did worse than that when I was in Goodfellow, and unless she messes up again she probably won't lose her rank. But she needs to be on her best behavior for a while until she can gain the trust of her Drill Sergeants again. Everyone needs their stories about the stupid things they did in AIT, it's just part of the process Big Grin

She cannot be in too much trouble if she had phone privelages enough to call home and tell them about it.

Well, the outcome of the episode is restriction to post for two weekends and write a couple of lengthy essays about what she learned from the experience. And no laptop computer.

Thanks for listening. Y'all are a great bunch and you have my support. Carry on.
