my husband went to BCT on Feb 6, he goes to AIT at Fort Gordon for 25s (26 weeks long) I am pregnant with our first baby and due in June. he will still be in AIT @ that time. what are the chances that he will be able to come home for the birth. we live in Fayetteville, NC about 3-1/2 hours away? also, are there any duty stations more likely than others for MOS 25s? Thanks for your help

First off congrats on the upcoming kid. Im at Fort Gordon right now (been here for about 2 years now). Not the best place in the world, definately not the worse either. He may or may not be given the chance to take some emergency leave when your baby is born, that will really be up to his commander. I would suggest that when he gets here, he should go to his drill sergeant as soon as he can and let them know about your current situation so they can inform the commander. Now assuming he can go on leave there is a trade off. I am not sure what the current wait time is for a new AIT student to get into the 25S course. Working under the assumption that he is actually in a class by the time you have the baby (which is pretty likely I think), if he does take leave, he will be dropped from his class and setback for missing to much class. How long he would wait until he can get into another class where he left off is anyones guess. What I would suggest is that when he talks to his drill sergeant, he look into the possability of taking a pass over the weekend shortly after you have the baby. With luck, the commander may be extra nice and even push it to a 3 or 4 day pass. Again, this is all entirely up to the commander, so your husband will want to keep his nose clean. As far as duty assignments, once he actually starts class around the 5th week or so I think, they will be put into either a tactical or strategic tract. That will be the greatest influence right now about where he will go next, but in all honesty, it could be pretty much anywhere. Hope this helps.

I to am at Gordon, I have a friend who just got out of the field sanitation class with some Drill Sergeant's and they told my friend that all of 15th Sig is way behind schedule and their is a long waiting list waiting to start school(they are running all three shifts, Day/Swing/Mids), but he maybe lucky and get right in a class

As for as Duty Stations as Pyro said it depends if he goes tactical or strategic, and if he goes tactical who is deploying(they try to fill up deploying units, obviously) While I was in Germany they took about five soldiers(Sierra's) from a strategic site and they deployed with us, so its not always safe, when he gets to AIT he may want to call the branch manager and try and request a certain place, or possibly choose from 3-4 places

thanks for the replies. so you think it may be possible that he get to come home for atleast a day or two? because that is better than nothing. Also, I have heard that since his AIT is 25 weeks that I could move to Fort Gordon after he gets there, is that true? If it is does that mean that he will be living with us or will he still be living in the Barracks? Oh, do they get to choose whether tactical or strategical? or is it based on test scores or something? thanks all of this is new even though I was an army brat

oh, what does it mean that they are running behind schedule and he might not be able to get into a class right away? will he have time inbetween BCT and AIT then or during the wait what happens? thanks!

Your husband can bring you to Gordon while he is in AIT. Like Troy Ward said he has to notify his Chain of Command once he arrives so they can process any paperwork. items he may need are marriage certificates and DA form 5960 so that you can recieve funds for offpost housing. these funds are also dependent of rank. you can go here to get an idea. https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/

congrats on your new baby and best of luck.

Keep in mind that one company has 80-120 soldiers with issues as well so this may take a little time. but it can happen. he will be in 447 when he gets to AIT.

Yes you should be able to move to Gordon. Once he gets here, he needs to talk to his command to make the arrangements. Please make sure that he has orders to move you before you move yourself. If you move and haven't gotten everything taken care of, you may well end up eating the cost of it. I am not sure how it works with AIT students living with their families (when I came through for AIT, you couldn't bring your family) but I believe they are able to live with you as long as they keep their nose clean. The army will decide if he goes tactical or stretegic. It depends on how many of each one the army needs at any given moment in the day and on how he does in the basic satilite part of the course.

On a given day, Fort Gordon has several thousand students here. Because there is only so much room in the classes, certain mos's that have lots of student going through them can have a waiting list to actually get into the class. Right now the two biggest ones I think are 25S and 25B. When he gets here, they should give him some idea on when he will actually start class. Unfortunaltey because he is active duty though, he will be last priority behind the reservists and national guard (Army has to pay him the same no matter what he is doing, the states have to pay their people more every day they are on active duty). Hope this helps.

WO1 Pyro brought up a point about waiting behind reservists and national guard. This might seem bad, but he will end up at Fort Gordon longer. If he ends up getting an assignment to Korea or what not, you would at least be together longer before he went there. This happened with my wife and I when I went to 25P school a few years ago. Also, the civilians at finance are mean to AIT soldiers and have been known to tell them that they are not authorized stuff like family moves and such. If it is in his orders, which he should receive at the end of Basic Training, and they harass him about it make sure a Drill SGT or Operations SGT goes with him. My wife came here and I tried to get her stuff moved, they told me no(E-1 at the time). She went with my OPS SGT and he straightened them out.
