I was wondering if you had to reenlist for conus to conus assignments. I am on orders to Ft. Hood from the recruiting world, they are telling me I have to reenlist for this assignment. Help would be wonderful. Thank you SSG Sparky.

You'll have to reenlist if do not have enough time to meet the service remaining requirement (SRR) for the assignment; 24-months from arrival date for CONUS to CONUS.

I always thought that, too, but they were going to send me to Fort Hood when I only had 16 months left in the Army and they told me I didn't have to reenlist to go.

Moot point now as they are leaving me here until completion of my MEB, but if they let me stay in the Army, then I'm still going to have to go to Fort Hood, only I'll have even less time to be there.

Did a Career Counselor tell you you didn't have to reenlist or was is a leader or Reenlistment NCO?

You should not receive your orders from LEVY unless you have sufficient time to PCS.

Just a Caveat on the Moderator's remarks:
Typically 24 months from report date to new unit is the required SRR; however, you need to be aware that if the gaining unit is a Life-Cycle unit, you may need to have more than 24 months. You will be required to meet the SRR for the life cycle of the unit. Check for Special Instructions that may identify this.
