Hey everyone. I've been in the Army for 6 years. My second year in, I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, went to a MEB and was cleared for duty. I reenlisted a year or so later. I am now trying to reenlist again, but am being told I am ineligible for reenlistment because I have a P3 profile. What criteria is being used to keep me from reenlisting? I have looked at the regulations, and as long as I have been cleared for duty by a MEB, I am good to go.

There is an officer at my unit who also has Type I Diabetes, but he is not having any trouble in the retention area.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, not knowing all the facts; check the paragraphs below, see which one fits your case. If you have a P3 profile from an MEB, you should be able to reenlist as long as you provide a copy of the profile and your Career Counselor checks "YES" for profile and date of MEB when making you eligible. If you are approved for COAD and have a code listed below, you may only stay until your RCP.

AR614-280
Chap. 3-8e. Medical and Physical Fitness.
(1) (POL MSG 10-01) Soldiers must meet the medical retention standards of chapter 3, AR 40-501, or have been found physically qualified to perform in his or her PMOS per AR 635-40. However, the following exceptions apply:
(a) Soldiers approved for continuation of active duty (COAD) by the physical disability evaluation system (PDES) may reenlist or extend to their retention control point. These Soldiers may be identified by EDAS data element PHYC code "X" and data element COADCD codes "A, B, D, E, or F". However, if the disability for which the Soldier was continued worsens to the degree to make further service questionable or if the Soldier is diagnosed with new conditions which fall below the medical standards of AR 40-501, chapter 3, the Soldier may be denied reenlistment. If reenlistment is denied, the Soldier must be referred to the PDES.
(b)Soldiers who are qualified for retention by a Physical Evaluation Board will not be denied reenlistment under this provision. Soldiers pending MMRB action per AR 600-60, will not be reenlisted until the MMRB action has been finalized; however, they may be extended for the minimum time necessary to complete the MMRB action.
