Situation...Re-enlisting for choice of duty station when I've only had a few months at current post. Active Army 35F30

Question:
Do I have to wait at least a year before come down on orders for my choice of duty station? or can I get orders cut right away?

You can reenlist now for your assignment, assuming there is an assignment out there that you want, but you cannot report until you have had at least 12 months time on station. For example, your 12-month anniversary at Lewis is 200812, and then your available date would be 200901.

CC Ray is 100% correct (and is becoming a very knowledgeable member of ArmyStudyGuide's retention community)

Thank you both for your input. Not the answer I wanted but I'll deal.

This should only be a few months from now, what's the hurry?

I just got back from Korea and am currently in Bragg.

My window opens in approx 4 weeks I want to re-enlist and go back to Korea because I had fun there, but my unit deploys in May.

How would this work? Would it be the same, only my availability date would be after I get back from the Sandbox?

How long have you been on Bragg? Have you deployed yet?

I've been on Bragg for about a month. No, I have not deployed yet. We deploy in May, which would put me at 11 months on station.

Get ready for the deployment ... you cannot reenlist for another location unless you've spent 12-months on your current station.

I know I'm gonna deploy, but what I was wondering is, when I re-enlist, would my availibility date be the month after I return? Or when?

I'm curious, that's all. I'm not trying to get out of deployment, if that's what it sounds like.

My fiancee in Korea is also bugging me about it, too.

Since your unit is not stop moved yet, you can reenlist when your window opens for Korea (if a slot is available), but your report month will be pushed to the right after redeployment plus 90 days. This will be adjusted when stop move comes down.

Ok. I figured it was something like that. Just wanted to be sure.

Thanks! Smiler

It just may benefit you more to reenlist while you're deployed, unless you REALLY want Korea and it's being offered when your reenlistment window opens.

If I were you I would wait to re-enlist till I got down range, it's tax free there. Also, regaurdless you will have to wait until you get back and the fence is lifted before you go anywhere. By then it maybe time for you to PCS anyways.

What if he's authorized a higher MOS bonus and an assignment to Korea is available? Would you still recommend waiting?
