Believe me, there aren't many programs that are more confusing or have more rules for different programs than Retention.
That being said, your servicing Career Counselor would ont intentionally sway you from one career path to another. He/she doesn't get different "bonuses" or "atta-boys" for certain programs. Our job, first and foremost, is to maintain Army force alignment.
Let me try to provide you with some regulatory guidance:
FY07 Policy Message#3 states mid-career Soldiers must be on station for 24-months prior to departing installation.
Being a mid-career Soldier, unless you are in an balanced or overstrength, you will not be offered Option 3, Army Training Option.
You can submit a reclassification packet for 25U with the Airborne identifier, but your class date must be after your 24th month on station. Class dates are normally loaded on RETAIN 18-months from class date.
Again, Army policy, not your Career Counselor is the driving force to what you get or don't get for reenlistment.
