Ok here's the scoop....Im a 92A midcareer soldier who's in his 24 mo. window but unfortunately I've been TOS for 6 months now. Now that I have the chance I really want to reenlist and reclass into either a 25B or a 25U and according the current in/out call message I can because there's an exception to the rules because they are accepting airborne or those who would like to be personnel regardless of my in/out call (92A)(E5). But unfortunately my career counselor says that I have to be here for at least 24 months but the regulation says only 12 months when it comes to reclass purposes. I don't understand. Also I don't qualify for the BEAR program because I am not in a balanced or overstrenthed MOS but 25U is in the BEAR program and I can reelist into it because of the IN\OUT calls message but will I receive the BEAR bonus associated with it.

Believe me, there aren't many programs that are more confusing or have more rules for different programs than Retention.

That being said, your servicing Career Counselor would ont intentionally sway you from one career path to another. He/she doesn't get different "bonuses" or "atta-boys" for certain programs. Our job, first and foremost, is to maintain Army force alignment.

Let me try to provide you with some regulatory guidance:

FY07 Policy Message
#3 states mid-career Soldiers must be on station for 24-months prior to departing installation.

Being a mid-career Soldier, unless you are in an balanced or overstrength, you will not be offered Option 3, Army Training Option.

You can submit a reclassification packet for 25U with the Airborne identifier, but your class date must be after your 24th month on station. Class dates are normally loaded on RETAIN 18-months from class date.

Again, Army policy, not your Career Counselor is the driving force to what you get or don't get for reenlistment.

my retention nco told me i'm lucky i could still get the duty stationed i want. but i really want to change my mos to 97e but i can't. because close to my 10 years active service. do you know if you received a cola if your stationed at ft irwin and how much?

You can change your MOS to 97E, but you won't get a bonus for it. It won't be through the BEAR Program, but an actual Reclassification action.

Also, wasn't the COLA questioned answered in another post?

the cola was not answered. My question was if you are stationed at ft irwin do you received a cola and how much?

There was a post specifically for COLA at Fort Irwin or anywhere else CONUS.
