I am looking for some help with extending. I am currently waiting to reenlist pending a CID packet being accepted by the selection board. It is at the front of the line but they are saying it may not be done by the last day I can reenlist. That day is 28 Oct 2009. They are saying that I should try to extend for a month or two to see what happens with it. My reenlistment guy said I cannot extend in my current situation. The retention reg says that you can extend "pending a personnel action". What qualifies as a "personnel action"? Would waiting on a CID packet be a personnel action? Any career counselor input would be appreciated and preferred but input from anyone knowledgeable on the subject is welcome.
Another bit to add to this. My current ETS date is 27 December 2009. Under the policy message 09-11 it has basically a blanket exception to policy to allow Soldiers to reenlist if they are within their 90 day window and have a 2009 contractual ETS date. the policy also states that "Soldiers, who have a contractual ETS date greater than today's date but less than 7 January 2010 may reenlist for any option otherwise qualified for". This is slightly confusing because another section of the message states "a. Due to the recent changes in the current environment the Army is granting an automatic exception to policy for qualified Soldier's desiring to reenlist who have an FY09 ETS date. b. FY09 ETSer's, who have not surpassed their contractual ETS date, are eligible to reenlist within the 90 day window for the option and term currently offered"
My question is whether this policy restricts me, having a FY09 ETS date to only reenlisting between October 1st and 28th or can I reenlist all the way up to my ETS date?
