How do I go about the RCP process??? I am still under contract and reenlisted before my RCP date by 8 months. My unit stated that they would promote me but I have failed to be recommended for the promotion board. I am currently 6 mos past RCP and just found out about what RCP was. Just always thought it was one of those Army tails.
I don't think you get kicked out once you are past your RCP, you just can't re-enlist again...I may be wrong.
Nope, looks like I'm right. From AR 601-280 (The Army Retention Program):
(2) Except for soldiers serving indefinite reenlistments, soldiers who reach their RCP during their current enlistment agreement, either through length of service, reduction in rank, or by removal from a promotion list, whether voluntary or involuntary, may serve until contracted Expiration Term of Service (ETS), unless they are separated earlier under applicable administrative, physical disability, or UCMJ separation provisions. Soldiers in this category who are eligible may apply for retirement. Soldiers with less than 18 years AFS serving indefinite reenlistments who exceed RCP as the result of a reduction in rank may serve to minimum retirement eligibility unless they are separated earlier under applicable administrative, physical disability, or UCMJ separation provisions.

My brother was in the same boat as me and got out before his actual ETS date on RCP but that was back in the "Seperation Money" days. He said if I want out i ahve to do it like he did and do my homework. he wasn't going to give me the answers. Got to love big brothers!!!

Wow, who needs enemies ...
It's pretty rare to be held past your RCP, unless you are stop lossed or have an exception to policy for serving past your RCP from HRC.
The RETAIN System is set up not to allow Soldiers to reenlist past their RCP. There must be something you're leaving out or not tellng me. If you want an accurate answer, you can PM me your SSN and I'll research and get back with you.
Retention Control Points (RCP) are based of a Soldier's basic active service date (BASD), not a Soldier's pay entry base date (PEBD).
Below are the current RCPs. Rank Total Active Service in Years PVT-PFC - 8 Years CPL/SPC - 10 Years CPL/SPC (Promotable) - 15 Years SGT - 15 Years SGT (Promotable) - 20 Years SSG - 22 Years SSG (Promotable) - 24 Years SFC - 24 Years SFC (Promotable) - 26 Years 1SG/MSG - 26 Years 1SG/MSG (Promotable) - 30 Years CSM/SGM - 30 Years
