I am currently deployed to Afghanistan, I am a 25U and never reenlisted. My 18month window opens next week. I asked about possible duty assignments because I want out of XVIII Airborne Corps. I was told that my only assignments available were the ones that were most needed on my Career Branch Website. Other than that I could not go anywhere else. Is this true? and How do I find out if I can go somewhere else. I want Italy but was told since I'm not already Airborne and I can't go, and that I'm not allowed to get airborne school and duty station of choice. any suggestions?

You can get a station of choice that is listed in RETAIN (Your Career Counselor has this system).

You can also get with you PSB or S-1 and ask (nicely) if you can see a list of assignments that are available for you MOS and skil level. They can look in their EDAS Sytem for this. Get the Requisitio number and take it to your Career Counselor and they can request this assignment through RETAIN.

Also, you cannot have a report date earlier than redeployment plus 90 days, so pay close attention to the report date.
