Hello,

Thank you for your time in advance.

I am looking at possibly reenlisting for a reclass to 35M.

I am a first termer 11B2O, got promoted to Sergeant about 4 months. Currently stationed at Fort Lewis, WA.

On some of the lists for 35M it says it's only SSG. And others it doesn't mention anything with rank.

My question is this: Is it going to be possible to reenlist for 35M? What does Special Critical Skills means? Some bonuses were listed but I'm not sure about that.

Any information you can give me would be great.

Also, what is the time on attending the 35M reclassification courses? Some guys switching to other MOS's (not 35M) have wait times up to a year.

Thanks.

The BEAR Program this is for SSG only. Since your current MOS is understrength, you cannot extend under the BEAR Program.

For those who qualify, the first available course is when they will attend training. If a class is not available with the first few months or even a year, you'll attend the first available.

Ok, so unless I was a SSG, I couldn't reenlist for 35M?

That really doesn't make any sense, seeing as SSG's are alot harder to come by than SGT's.

I see through your link that both 35M - Human Intelligence Collector and 35L - Counterintelligence Agent are both SSG. Is this waiverable for a SGT?

Sorry for sounding so inexperienced about the whole retention process.

Thank your for your time and dedication ArmyReenlistment.

I'm in the same boat as you pyro. I'm a 19D20 looking to reclass to 35M.

AR correct me if I'm wrong but if your MOS is balanced/overstrength and you are a first term soldier you can reup for option 3 to reclass to 35M regardless of rank?

Ah, I'm sorry for not trying to understand the differences between the BEAR program and the Option 3.

You probably get this type of ignorance alot being a career counselor. Sorry =[.

Just to clear this up, I can use the Option 3 reenlistment option to reclass to 35M with no bonus correct?

That would actually be acceptable to me, considering the actual useful training provided by the reclass and the opportunity to get bigger bonuses in a Critical Skills MOS.

Final question for you ArmyReenlistment, how long do you have to reenlist for to use the Option 3 to 35M? Would make more financial sense to do the bare minimum and then reup for a bonus in the new MOS.

Thanks for your time AR.

Exactly ... I process many requests through HRC on a weekly basis for 35M (any many other MOSs) and the request for SGTs and even SGT(P)s have bene coming back denied more and more.

We have a resident 35M subject matter expert that actually created a nice look FAQ page for Soldiers thinking about 35M. http://www.ej20.us/35m/

You're partly right ... all initial term Soldiers get the option to change their MOS through Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option, but you still must qualify for the MOS you're considering. If an MOS is only accepting SPC non-promotables and below, a SGT cannot be considered ... likewise for 35M unless the proponent is waiving this (which I have not seen any in the last 6-8 months).

You could if 35M was accepting anything other SSGs.

Minimum reenlistment period is three years for initial term Soldiers. I don't think 35M has a service remaining requirement longer than that.
(31D requires 5 years on your contract after graduating their course)

DO In/Out Calls pay any role in this? Current milper message puts 35M is Y/N (shortage) for SGT.

Since you are a mid-career Soldier, you can reenlist for Option 3 as an exception.

You need to complete 12-months on station prior to leaving for the new MOS course.

You can choose an MOS from the Priority MOS List. You must be fully qualified for the MOS and HRC will approve/disapprove the request based on Army strengths.

Yes, minimum reenlist period is three years for Option 3 ... Soldiers must also meet the service remaining requirement for new MOS and follow-on assignment.

So, the minimum is 3 years, but it can also be 4-6 years as well based on the MOS and assignment.

Yes, but the In/Out Calls have not been released since February so we have to go by the real-time strengths at HRC ... your Career Counselor can always send the request up; worst case is it's denied.
