My husband is looking to reenlist and change MOS from 88H to 15Q. Everything was going fine until the day he went to sign the final paper work and then his reenlistment NCO told him that 15Q needed a security clearance. So he went to BN to file and BN looked at him like he had grown a second head but proceeded to START anyway (which is fine) except that that was 2 months ago and we still haven't heard anything. So I got curious. Looking around online, I found several sites saying that 15P needed a Secret level clearance but nothing about a clearance for 15Q (which is where my husband wants to be!). So how do I find out which it is? He hasn't asked and I am afraid if I ask someone, I'll either be told he needs to find out and be laughed at for asking, or be told the wrong information. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

15Q does and has required a SECRET clearance for some time. The Reenlistment NCO didn't read the MOS Book or MinQuals (Minimum Qualifications) to verify if your husband qualified or not.

Your husband needs to have a INTERIM SECRET clearnace granted by the S-2 ir order to get this MOS. An INTERIM SECRET takes no more than a couple of days to be granted. Have the Career Counselor (NOT the Reenlistment NCO) type up a simple memorandum for the S-2 stating why your husband needs the clearance.

RECOMMENDATION:
1. You and your husband go see the Career Counselor. (You've spent enough time on the unit Reenlistment NCO with little results)

2. Get the memo from your Career Counselor for the S-2 and have the S-2 initiate an INTERIM SECRET clearance which will qualify your husband for the MOS. This should only take a few days at most.

I'm sure your husband will be reenlisting this week or after the holidays.

Let us know how it turns out.

It's YOUR career! Take control of it before someone else does.
