I want to be discharged from the Army early so that I can start school. I ETS in feb and i am just trying to get out in jan to attend the spring semester. If you could help me out with what the 4187 should look like. thanks!
I am not going to have enough leave saved up for the time I need. I know it is not a gurantee but my commander told me he would help me out and my S1 just needs to know what the 4187 looks like.
In block 8, check "Other" and write: "Voluntary Separation." In the remarks sections, write:
"I request voluntary separation UP AR 635-200, Chapter 5-16, for early separation to further education. I request a separation date of <include date that is close to ETS> I further understand that the separation date must not exceed 90 days prior to my ETS and that if I have not completed my statutory service obligation (10 USC 651), I may be transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)." (or words to that effect)
Your local legal office (military justice) should be able to assist with you this - they may have their own standards on how 4187s are prepared.
Additional notes: When submitting everything, make sure you include your statement of acceptance that also has the lastest acceptable registration dates for the school term - this is to determine the date falls within 90 days of your ETS. Also make sure your able to show proof of payment.
