Right now im a 25U deployed to afghanistan with 10th MTN. I have about 16 months left and am thinking about reclassing to 97E or 97B. I will probably be going to the board sometime before the end of the year, but i want to know if it would be possible at all to reclass into 97E as a non-(P) SPC. I have high scores all around (123 GT is my lowest line score, and i scored a 110 on my DLAB)
I know my MOS is Y/N for in/out, so would it be possible to get 97E as a re-enlistment option?

Also, is the only way to get 97B to have (P) status?

Are you a intial term Soldier?

If you are a first term Soldier, you will be offered Option 3, Army Training. You will not be offered one of these MOSs though. Your Career Counselor will have to submit a "Hotline" when you are fully qualified for this MI MOSs.

You seem to have high ASVAB scores and a very good DLAB score. Do you have an interim Top Secret Clearance? If not, get with your S-2 and let them know that you will be submitting a packet to change your MOS to the MI field and a clearance is required. If they won't go for this, have your Career Counselor type a simple memo stating this.

Yes, i am an initial term soldier, ive got a secret as of now, but i will shoot my S2 guys an email or call them to see if they can start it for me for the interim TS.
My main concern is we just got word that come march 16th that if soldiers dont have 3 or more years at ft drum that they will get locked into another 2 year life cycle. I would like to avoid getting stuck with this same unit again and give the military another shot from a different perspective before i give up on it completely and get out.
How long would the process take after i submit my packet to change to a 97B? Ive read that it sometimes takes quite a while to get approval for it. Would this get me out of the 2 year life cycle to change to a 97B, or will I get stuck going through another deployment with this same unit...

Hopefully that all made sense, i just got done working an 18 hour work day and am quite tired at the moment.

The process may take up to 30 days once you meet all qualifications, but should be back sooner than that. (I had a Soldier's packet approved in 12 days)

If you are approved for the MOS and have a school date, you should be goog to go for school. Just get the clearance initiated an get with your Career Counselor soonest.
