I haven't had a chance to talk to a career counselor in my unit, if there is one right now since some of our unit just got back from Iraq and some from Kosovo. Anyways, I'm a SPC MOS 25U looking to go back into Active Duty here in the near future. I'm wondering if it's possible for me to transfer. I was Active from Jun 2001 til Jun 2005 and was honorably discharged and then joined the Guard in Jul 2007 so I've done a year of my 6 year contract. If it's possible, which I'm assuming it is, do I have to pay back my bonus? I haven't received the second half yet so could I wait until I get that, then go Active and get a bonus for that lol? I know that my MOS is on the critical list so that should help some with any incentives. A buddy of mine just went from Reserves to Active and received bonuses for both PLUS choice of duty station. I'm hoping for the same kind of bargain, but I've been in long enough to know that nothing is guaranteed even if your buddy got it. I understand that the list of available slots for 25Us isn't available for periodic browsing, but would a career counselor be able to show me the slots even if I'm not signing up that day? What are some good bases for families? When I was Active before, I was single so I didn't care and was stationed at Wainwright in Alaska and Hood. I understand deployments are just the way of life these days but it'd be nice to at least be at a base that doesn't roll out every other year like Hood. My wife and I were considering Stewart, Carson, and possibly Lewis but if smaller bases are available, we'd prefer that. Also, I'm not sure if this still happens with the high mobility of units these days, but are Army personnel still getting slots at Air Force bases? I apologize for seeming random, I'm working nights and haven't fully adjusted. Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

I can almost guarantee you it isn't going to happen. Minnesota is not approving many releases for soldiers to go active. You can give it a shot, but you are in a high-demand MOS right now, and even if your commander approves it, State will probably kick it back.
