Hello, I am SGT Arthur Sudduth Active duty first enlistment due to ETS in June 2010. I would like to know more about the guidelines for determining the eligibility for extension due to family member illness. I know that pregnancy is acceptable and that you have to show proof. It however does not offer any other information. I am looking to extend my enlistment to December 2010 due to various reasons, one is that my wife is pregnant now and is due in April 2010 and we are uncomfortable getting out of the service with barely a 2 month old. If you know of another option to postpone my ETS via extension then that would also be great. I am eligible for the E-6 board and will be attempting to get recommended near the beginning of the year because I know there is a 12 month SRR for promotion to E-6 but seeing as I just made my TIG requirement I am not confident they will recommend me.
For those who ask why I do not reenlist, well I am looking to get out to complete a degree in Physics but because of my work rotation it prohibits me for attending face to face classes and thus limits me from taking lab required classes. I am also trying to get commissioned in a specific job field but it requires that I be at least 28. I will be 24 in 2010 and have at least 3 years of school left meaning I can not service past 2010 if I hope to get commissioned in that field.
