I got out May 1 of this year...now I've decided to join back up but I do not want to stay in my current MOS. For career reasons, I want to switch to a 91K. I go to MEPS next weekend, I plan to walk away if they don't allow me in my MOS of choice. What chances do I have of getting this MOS? Also, is a bonus available at all?

Karen, you can create another thread for that information if you'd like.

As for GeorgeG's question, why did you get out the first time?

What was your "RE" code?

How long did you serve?

My RE code is 1. I got out because I wanted to go college full time and start a career but then my wife got pregnant right after i got home from Iraq and so going back to school and not working is not an option. This was my first enlistment and I have been out about 6 months.

63B is an understrength MOS (Priority 1) and 68K is a balanced MOS (Priority 2) MOS meaning the Army needs 63Bs more than 68Ks.

It's hard to see the Army retraining you into an MOS they really don't need anyone in right now, but stranger things have happened in recruiting.

I would like to get some information about re-enlisting back into the Army. I was a 63B. I was an E4/Spc. I was active duty from 12/1985 - 12/1989. I received an HONORABLE DISCHARGE. My RE Code is 1. I just turned 41 11/2006. I would like to know about getting back in ASAP. Is there any Bonus available?

Best advice would be to see your local Army recruiter.

Reenlisting is really for Soldiers currently in.

Enlisting again (I guess that's what one would calll it) would be for Soldiers that ETSed and came back in.

68K is THE toughest MOS to get promoted to SSG. Yes, the skills are now marketable in the real world, but if you are looking for a career Army job, look closely at what you need to do in order to get to a decent retirement. I was a 92B back in the 1980s (that's what Med Lab Specs were called then). When I reenlisted in 2000, I avoided 91K simply because I knew that you needed 798 promo points to get SSG, the points OCCASIONALLY drop to 795.
