I went to my Retention NCO and got all the paperwork started for my reclass to a 46Q. He said on 2 occasions that I was fully qualified. He said that all I was waiting on was to get my school date.

Now today he tells me that I can not do that MOS because I have a permanent profile for running (broke ankle in Afghanistan) and because I wear glasses. My current MOS 21E and requires heavy lifting as well as strong feet.

Is this true for this MOS? Is there a waiver? I am going from running bulldozers to writing stories and taking pictures???? I know the Army does not make total sense sometimes but there has to be a way around this.

The physical Profile says 222221, I have a 1121111

Thank you for your insight.

No one has an idea.....

Can I reenlist for a different MOS that is balanced or not on the BEAR list?

Go see your Career Counselor, your retention NCO appears to be wrong.

Well it seems the 46Q school itself says no profiles, but allows for waivers. So my Retention is doing a great job getting the waiver done. I am crossing my fingers....

Submitted my medical history and profile to the 46Q school, hopefully they accept me.

Anyone have any insight on schools allowing perm profiles?

Just make sure you keep a copy of your MEB/MMRB, and any paperwork you submitted when you go to the school.

Well the Retention NCO tells me it is over a year wait for this school and wont even look at my waiver for 6 months.

Next question: Does Option 3 reenlistment have to be a Bear or Y/N in and out call? I want a different MOS I am not picky but just anything that will let me change.

46Q is more involved than just writing stories and taking pictures. DINFOS is a very demanding school with many Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines having an extensive background in journalism. You can email me off the forum and I can elaborate more on what to expect as a 46Q because the MOS is worth waiting on a school date to attend.

I have a school date for 46Q in June 2010. I secured that date back in July of last year. Any information you can provide is helpful.

I would do this for free if I could.

http://www.dinfos.osd.mil/ here is a great link to the school that provides basic information on what to expect. Also grab a copy of the latest edition of AP styleguide to bring with you. On AKO Forums there is a Public Affairs section with tons of information about the MOS itself etc etc. Again, this is IMO the best job in the Army so the school is worth the wait. Smiler

Why is it worth the wait? What does a 46Q do on a daily basis?
