I've decided I want to go to Italy. Right now I'm 90 days out from ETS, first-termer, Non-airborne qualified, 19D SGT.

I spoke with my Career Counselor he suggested that I re-enlist for 2 years for Option 3 airborne school, once I gratuate airborne I can re-enlist again for OCONUS station of choice and try to get into Italy. I'm not trying to undermind my Career Counselor but I just wanted to get a second opinion and maybe any suggestions on other routes I could take to get over to Italy. Thank you.

None of this can actually happen because the minimum reenlistment period for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option is 3 years.

I thought so, thank you for your help AR. Is there anyway that I can extend my contact so that my unit could get me an airborne slot?

The only way to extend your contract now would be to extend under the BEAR Program.

Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option is for initial term Soldiers. Once you reenlist, even if for only two years, you're no longer an initial term Soldier.

Well I ended getting what I wanted. Re-Upped for 4 more year Needs of the Army. Worked a deal with my branch manager a slot to Italy with airborne en-route. So if he honors his part of the deal I will be golden. And yes I understand this is not 100% sure, had to take some risk to get over to Italy. Thanks

I'm supposed to report in April so that would mean Airborne in March. Since I worked this deal with my branch manager I should start seeing my assignment popping up on my ASK and ERB pretty soon. Would that be a correct assumption?

Yes, this may take up to a week to cycle through all systems to your ERB/ASK.

Thanks again for your help, I realized I took a big risk and will be very happy to see that assignment start popping up on my AKO!
