I am an E4P by next month will be an E5. I have 5 1/2 years in the military and have been at the same duty station. My ETS date is Nov 29, 2011. I am wondering if I can reenlist here in Iraq and either change my MOS and/or change duty stations. Please let me know something.

i know AR is the SME here, but i know that you can not reclass and get duty station of choice in the same reenlistment. Option 3 if you meet the pre-reqs ( again AR's field) you can reclass, or the other options to change duty stations.

You cannot get anything until 29 Nov 2009, that is when you will be in your 24 month window. If you have not reenlisted in your A zone, reenlist for 3 years and get a bonus, that way you will still be eligible for options a year later. Hope this helps.

I thought that while you were deployed there was no window you can do it at anytime.

You can but you will not get any options other than a bonus if you are even eligible for a bonus.

At least 3 years, or long enough to move into the next zone. Optimal would be the 3 year choice so you would only be sitting for a year waiting to cross into your 24 month window again.

Good information, gillhicks!

shamekia, when Soldiers are deployed, they can reenlist regardless of their ETS. However, you will only be offered Option 1, Regular Army or Option 2, Current Station Stabilization, as an exception. Of course, if you qualify for a bonus you can get one.

Since you mentioned reenlisting to change your MOS, be aware that Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option is only offered to initial term Soldiers. Once you reenlist, you are no longer an initial term Soldier. Mid-career Soldiers may get Option 3 as an exception, but your current MOS can not be understrength.

It's YOUR career! Take control of it before someone else does.
