I was granted E5 for the Army coming from the AF after 6 years, when I went down to MEPS there were no jobs for an E5 going to WTC so I had to get dropped to E4. I leave in March and wanted to know how long it would take for me to get my rank back.

Where are leaving in March? If you haven't been in an Army unit yet, then you're not a Corporal. Corporal is a unit promotion that can be taken or granted at anytime. Most likely, you're a SPC/E-4. Just to clarify that. Before you can make SGT, you need to attend a promotion board. You have the time in service, you'll have to wait a few months so the unit can assess you. You're NCO's can take of you when the time comes. Good Luck!

Thanks but I knew I wasn't considered a corporal I just wanted to know how long it would take for me to gain my E5 status back.

ArmyGirl---the reason he assumed you thought you were a Corporal is because that is the rank you have as your avatar. Specialist rank looks completely different, kind of like a parachute with an eagle in it.

You will need to get both the TIS and TIG to be eligible for the next rank, once you have that, you need to be recommended to the board, go to the board and your points add up, if you have more than the monthly cut-off you will get promoted for that month...

Armygirl, Another thing, as a prior service from another service, the Active Army does not put much stock in other services ranks or what you did in the other service, expect to be made fun of being in the Air Force. Especially in AIT.

Drill SGT's Were brutal on me for being a Navy Guy.

But its worth it, you will make rank a lot quicker in the Army than any service. Good Luck, WTC is fun if you stick to yourself and help out the others.
