Hi everyone. I recently got promoted and was automatically made the NCOIC of a clinic 2 weeks later. Problem is I have no other NCO above me that can answer the questions I havent figured out. My "boss" for my department is an e8 in the navy who doesnt understand the Army 100%. With that being said I have already gone to my new company with a fcp question, upl request, unit victim advocate request and now alc. I usually find out everything I need myself but i am racking my brain trying to figure out regs or prerequisites for school. I am driving my training nco crazy. My old 1sg now sgm talked to me a few days ago and said i dont need to be promotable to go to alc. I know he is smart(obviously) but i like to be able to figure everything out myself and know where to look. Long story short. Do I have to be promotable to go to ALC? Second anyone have a link to where i can look at this myself? And by the way ive known my sgm for 6 years and so when i got promoted he came for a visit. I dont go jumping over anyone cause im not stupid enough to get my ass chewed for that crap, but i know i can ask him for advice. Thanks. Sorry bout the long question.

I'm currently doing the DL portion of ALC, but I didn't realize I had a class date until I happened to check my AKO email. My training NCO put in the 4187 for me to get a class date but several weeks went by before I got the email telling me I had a class date, and it was almost 6 weeks after gettting that email that my class actually started. Between you and I, it's cake, if you can read and write, you can knock out the DL portion is no time, lol. As far as you original question as to whether you can be sent to ALC as a non-promotable E-5, I don't know. I have always been under the impression you had to be promotable, but the Army is ever changing (especially with this swell SMA we've got) so what is right today, maybe wrong tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to be promotable to do Phase II of ALC. I'm not promotable yet and I have a class date.

As for prereqs for it, go to ATTRS and try to see if you can find the ALC course for your MOS. To get enrolled in the DL portion I just emailed my branch manager to get enrolled. Not sure if that was the right way to get it, but thats what I was told to do my my chain of command so thats what I did.

Also, go to the website of the post you did AIT at, they will have a link for ALC. Just find your MOS and it will tell you what you will need to know and bring once you do have a class date for Phase II.

42A ALC phase you, you MUST be promotable to attend, i dont know if all MOS require this.
