Can somebody tell me if Commissioned Officers actually pilot aircraft? I would love to fly, but Warrant doesn't seem to do it for me...

I'm not certain on the stages of schooling and what have you, but yes commissioned officers certainly do fly in the Army. There are strong rumors against this, probably for good reason. About ninety eight percent of the Army's pilots (planes choppers whatever else) are warrant officer, but yes there is the roughly two percent who are just officers. Hope that helps.

WO does nothing but execute the mission and train with with aircraft. Officers mostly plan the missions that the WO's will do. So once you become a O-2 or O-3 you will seldomly get to fly the bird. Just something I picked up from other forums.

In the Apache world, you have the Line companies/Troops (A,B,C) your support (HHT/HHC) and your maintenence unit (D). The Commissioned officers fly just like the warrants, they just dont rack the hours that the warrants do. The commisioned officers have a company of soldiers to worry about whereas the warrant just has to worry about when his next flight is and when his next nap is. Staff (HHT/HHC) and maintence (D) fly less than the combat commanders bc their focus is more on making the unit work rather than having a crew of pilots below them to worry about

Hello again! To answer your question, Commissioned Officers do fly, it'e just that once they make MAJ, they are staff aviators and only fly to make their minimums for the YEAR! As a WO, you can fly until they have to pull the cyclic from your cold dead hands!!
