Hello.

I'm a little confused about MEPS....

I've gone for my physical (duck walk, etc) and now am just waiting to be shipped to basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Sept 2004.

I'm reading that some people are going BACK to MEPS before or on their ship date again? Why is this OR am I just mis-reading the information?

I was under the impression once you passed your physical, were sworn in and signed your papers, there was no need to go back to MEPS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch....

Christine

You go back to MEPS so they can make sure you're still all together since the last time they saw you.

Thanks Epic Honor....

Does this mean you have to go through the ENTIRE MEPS process a second time? Oh, it was bad (well, not bad, but loooooooong) enough the first time.

I just want to know so I can be prepared; for me, that's half the battle right there.

Thanks again for the info...

My son just went through that Thurs. The scenario went like this : His recruiter picked him up late Wed. afternoon drove him to a hotel near MEPS. A 0400 wakeup Thurs. then walk to MEPS to arrive at 0500. A quick check-up to make ssure his body didn't assume room temperature since his original physical exam. Then a meeting for the Army guys after noon meal & hang around until about 1600 when they were transported to the airport. What time he left or how many guys were with him going to Benning is unknown as he went into a communication blackout since then so we can only assume he arrived at Ft. Benning Reception Station.

That was the good news. He was originally supposed to go on 6 Jan. His recruiter took him down there at 0430 to have him rewrite his contract from 19D to 11B. This was supposed to have been all pre arranged. They had him listed as a DEP drop & couldn't do a thing about it. He was told he'd have to wait 60 days to be reinstated & besides Infantry is all filled up. Some strings were pulled & he went down a few days later to renegotiate his contract & get a new shipping out date. Well he kinda lucked into it because not only was Infantry available but it was a bonus MOS & he got $10,000 for his troubles! What a difference a few days make. They must have had a lot of bail outs when the freeze was lifted.
His recruiter took leave & then he had a death in the family so I've gotta believe he wasn't really on top of things. Just a word to the wise. Keep in constant touch with your recruiter. My son originally was going in as a PFC & now he lost that & is going in as a PV1. That $10,000 covers that nicely though!
Top out.

for the most part as long as you dont weigh any more than the first time you got taped then you will be fine. Also the second time at MEPS they do not test for drugs. All it really is is height/weight and ask if anything has changed since the last time you were there. Also what top said about keeping in constant contact with your recruiter could not be more true. As a recruiter it helps me too because we deal with so many people some things can slip through the crack. If you keep up with it though you will be taken care of.
