63J is a quartermaster mechanic...well that is what I call them. They get to work on everything that they dont already have a MOS for decon equipment, washer and dryers, fuel trucks pretty much anything with a small engine. mostly the ones that work for me dont mind getting corss-trained on wheeled equipment. Unless they go to a laundry and bath unit, 63J never get to do their jobs. This is definetly a slot MOS. I would tell your young friend to stay away from both 63J and 52C a 52C at the organizational unit gets to blow out a Air Filter on a 18,000 BTU air conditioner and if its more than that they send it to a direct support unit. They are not allowed to open the system at all, so they(52C) are limited. Promotion potential is slow to stagnant on the three mos's your young friend is looking at.

If your friend is intrested in computer stuff networking, baselines and software 74B is the way to go. If he is set on turning a wrench on stuff 63B's are about to combine with their direct support conterparts. This easily relates to civilian type training. If he wants to work with electronics there are some 30 series that are a general purpose electronic technician. I forgot to mention that there are some slots available for 52D's with an additional skill identifier that get to work on the unmanned aerial vehicles, but like anything else I am sure they are hard to come by. Just let us know what his intresets are and there are many of us in this forum that can guide him and not give him a spit shined picture of what that MOS does everyday.
