I joined the Army in July, 2008 with a 4 year contract as a 44C Finance Tech. I was scared of the whole war thing so I thought it would be an easy MOS. And what do you know, I'm currently deployed in Iraq.. the MOS is too easy.. I hate having to sit around being a bank teller, when I was an idiot for not becoming a Farsi linguist to begin with. I want the challenge, and I want it bad.
My parents are both Iranian, but I was the first gen. born in the states. 100% American Hoo-ah.
I came into the Army with no rank, no bonus, no anything.. (I easily passed my 1st PT test, so I got cheated out of PV2.. sigh..)
Currently I am deployed in Iraq, ranked as a PFC, out of Fort Hood.
I bumped into some fellow soldiers during SRP right before I deployed, who I later found to be Farsi linguists (Funny and a long story) who told me that this MOS holds alot of opportunities for the future.
Long story short..
My questions:
I really don't want to enlist for more years then what I have left whenever I come back from Iraq. I ETS out of the Army July 2012, meaning I'll have almost 2 years even left in my contract when I get back to the States.. does it look like it's possible for me to reclass?
How long is AIT, How is AIT, and where is AIT located?
Am I eligible for any extra entitlements besides FLEP/FLIP? pay?, or any bonuses?
How long does it take for me to recieve the Top Secret clearance for becoming a linguist since it's linked with intel?
If I do choose and end up having to re-enlist, what is the minimum amount of years I may be able to add onto my current contract?
Would it be smart to re-enlist?
Any other emphasis on other key points on this matter will help greatly.
I hope to do this as fast as I can whenever I get back from Iraq, time is of the essence.
Oh, and I don't have any clue about the BEAR program? Can this program help me?
Thanks,
Ayzee.
