Ok AR, and all you other guys and gals out there. What say you on this...If Branch denies a voluntary reclassification release for a application only MOS, and you find out that they are not the approving authority, per AR 614-200, and if you all are wondering I emailed the lady that actually does all the changes to AR 614-200 and she clarified that one for me. So, is that IG complaint filable?

Are they the disapproval authority? Lower level command/organizations can disapprove actions prior to them reaching an approval authority.

Before you go see IG/EO, you should have your facts straight. Get the exact reason why your request was denied. Was it denied because of projected gains/losses? You must ensure you meet ALL the qualifications for the MOS you want.

I wouldn't tell you not to visit IG/EO about this, but you must have all the facts first.

As far as facts straight, I do believe I have those. I have the supporting documentation. The reason my release was denied was because of this: Branch Manager stated, "Current MOS strength - 15J worldwide aggregate strength is 85% - and the gain of over 225 additional authorizations effective October 2007 with no personnel increase are the major factors that prevent the Branch from favorably considering SGT BOD's request for release." What is funny is all the documentation I have pretty much contradicts that statement. So, I feel I am getting fed a line of BS. Just my opinion though. I mean honestly they wonder why the good Soldiers want to get out. Go figure. I do meet ALL qualifications for CID, my packet was approved just pending Branch release. If Branch would of released me, I would have a class date for ASAC right now. Well thanks for you response AR, always look forward to your posts.

Your branch has it right then. Because of increased authorizations for MOS 15J and no immediate bodies to fill these slots, they are looking at the overall strength of MOS 15J and not just specific ranks (if I am reading this correctly). I'm not trying to stop you from going to IG/EO, but based on the information you've provided, your request will come back with a negative response.

Thanks AR. I understand that portion. It just doesn't make since to stop one Soldier that is trying to better himself and make a career. To top it off, they need me so bad now, but the last 3 years I have been working at BN in the S3-shop. If it made since I would understand, but it's wrong. Trust me, I know all about life isn't fair, but come on, ya know. Again thanks AR and I appreciate your posts. I'm sure I'll have more soon.

Well yes this is where "Needs of the Army" fall into place, but isn't that why they post IN/OUT calls, because they represent the "Needs of the Army"? If the IN/OUT calls show that 31D is short E5's and 15J is not, then I believe that the "Needs of the Army" would need an E5 in the 31D and not 15J.

I have a friend who was looking into reclassing, his MOS is balanced, meaning they are not under or over strength, so he was told no you cannot, why? B/c if they let him (and others like him) go then they would go understrength.

So its not just about the MOS you are trying to get its about the one you are in too.
