Im Currently enrolled in the Army EOD program, at Eglin AFB. I love this MOS, the dedication and pride that all of the instructors have shown is incredible plus the jobs available afterwards carry alot of prestige. One of the toughest schools out there, 33% attrition rate at Eglin AFB alone. The 10 week pre-course at Redstone Arsenal weeds out alot of the IET soldiers that joined primarily just for the money or to blow stuff up.

EOD is more than that. Ask any EOD tech who his family is, and I can guarantee you that he knows the names of every active EOD soldier deployed, or state side. Alive, or Dead.

Its not for everyone, though. You must be calm under stress, and have a great personality (and at times VERY thick skin lol). Beable to think on the run, there are very few procedures set in stone. Never work alone. Always work as safe as possible, but remember you are never safe.

For IET soldiers, there is a VERY structured enviroment at Redstone. Extremely hard for me when I went through it. (Study hall till 2100, bed-checks at 2400, and pt at 0430). Yes, dill sergeants are at both, Redstone AND Eglin AFB.

If theres any questions, im sue I could answer a few. MOSTs have to report to Drill Segeants at Eglin AFB too lol.

For those that are Reclassing, Officers, NCO's, and IET soldiers all work together. Its a classroom enviroment, and we're all here to learn. The only way to make it through is if EVERYONE works together, The E-1 over in the corner may be the only one that can word something to where the Captain can understand. Ive seen it before..

In Eglin all branches of the military attend the same class.. Army, Air Force, Marine, Navy. Its a Navy run School, on an Air Force Base. Army is bottom of the barrel.. lol. Be sure to stock up on any Army apparel youd like before arriving at Eglin.

School's tough (from what I've heard first hand from Soldiers I out in and from my brother-in-law), but they teach you everything you need to know to pass the course.

Yeah, don't really think that qualifies you, but it was a great try.

I think Soldiers deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan should get much higher bonuses.

How is the environment at the school in regards to the DS? Is it like going back to basic?

Also, what are you talking about with the army being bottom of the barrel, and what should they bring?

I am trying to get into EOD. I am a 39 yr old former Marine. I have been out for 16 yrs and am getting bored.
The money first attracted me to EOD but the more I read the more interested I am. I like small tight-knit groups and look forward to that kind of group.
I believe I will do well but it would be nice to find a group at the school that is dedicated to success not to goofing off.
Is the high attrician rate possibly due to young kids going in and not having the discipline to see the schooling through?
One of the problems I am wondering about is in EOD training they say it is high stress and what not. I am good at high stress and attention to detail but I am not good at working quickly. If I have the time I can shine but being forced to produce perfect results in a short time limit is difficult for me.
I am also hoping that there is a lot of support from others in EOD because in the Corpse weakness was looked down on and shunned. I am hoping that Army EOD guys support each other stand by each other.

Thanks

I graduated NAVSCHOOLEOD mid 2007 and am currently in Iraq. I noticed there hasn't been much activity on this topic as of late but if there are any questions, I'll be more than willing to lend an ear. Hopefully I can be of some help.

I am a 11B in the 82nd and I am really wanting to go EOD. I summit the letter of intent and fill out the credit check form. My question is can my unit prevent me from going to appointments and bomb suit test for EOD???

If so is there any way around this?? I don't want my unit to limit my wish to advance my career. I have been wanting this for a year now just had to wait until I had two years active duty.

Your unit can make it hard on you when going to take the suit test and interview. My advice is to ask. If they say no, call the EOD unit on your post and tell them you are having trouble getting over there. You may be able to set up a time after duty hours or put in for a pass and go take the suit test then. I have had a lot of Soldiers here on Ft. Campbell do it this way.

I have had to "clean up" after guys like you...

There are talks of Airborne units, but there are not "officially" any right now.

Airbornenova, contact the EOD recruiters at Bragg they can help you out with what you need. Use the link at the top of the page that ArmyReenlistment posted.
