Im Currently enrolled in the Army EOD program, at Eglin AFB. I love this MOS, the dedication and pride that all of the instructors have shown is incredible plus the jobs available afterwards carry alot of prestige. One of the toughest schools out there, 33% attrition rate at Eglin AFB alone. The 10 week pre-course at Redstone Arsenal weeds out alot of the IET soldiers that joined primarily just for the money or to blow stuff up.
EOD is more than that. Ask any EOD tech who his family is, and I can guarantee you that he knows the names of every active EOD soldier deployed, or state side. Alive, or Dead.
Its not for everyone, though. You must be calm under stress, and have a great personality (and at times VERY thick skin lol). Beable to think on the run, there are very few procedures set in stone. Never work alone. Always work as safe as possible, but remember you are never safe.
For IET soldiers, there is a VERY structured enviroment at Redstone. Extremely hard for me when I went through it. (Study hall till 2100, bed-checks at 2400, and pt at 0430). Yes, dill sergeants are at both, Redstone AND Eglin AFB.
If theres any questions, im sue I could answer a few. MOSTs have to report to Drill Segeants at Eglin AFB too lol.
For those that are Reclassing, Officers, NCO's, and IET soldiers all work together. Its a classroom enviroment, and we're all here to learn. The only way to make it through is if EVERYONE works together, The E-1 over in the corner may be the only one that can word something to where the Captain can understand. Ive seen it before..
In Eglin all branches of the military attend the same class.. Army, Air Force, Marine, Navy. Its a Navy run School, on an Air Force Base. Army is bottom of the barrel.. lol. Be sure to stock up on any Army apparel youd like before arriving at Eglin.
