I have completed the internship with my CID office and my packet at CID command has been approved to be a Special Agent, but my branch manager (Chemical) says they won't release me. I have 7 months left in the Army and I told them that if I don't get released to CID then I will ETS, but they still don't care. What should I do? Can I get a reenlistment contract with CID in it?

Last I heard, it's not really up to your Branch at this point. Your packet's been cleared, and you've completed your internship, now all that's left is school, right? Are you doing CID as a WO or Enlisted?

I'd go through my chain of command. Maybe you need to reenlist also in order to be excepted. Your in a good position, just take the right steaps, go through your chain, then you should be good to go.

What is your rank? Are you an initial term or mid-career Soldier?

Go see your servicing Career Counselor and they can submit a HOTLINE to get the CID in your contract. There is a 5-year service remaining requirement (SRR) for CID so you'll probably be reenlisting for 6-years.

I'm a SGT and an initial term soldier. If I can get this in my contract that would be great. My branch manager told me that she would never release me and that I will have to find a new job, because I'll just have to ETS (her actual words).

Two things ...

1. See your Career Counselor for an Option Exception HOTLINE. Maybe there's a chance.

2. Give your CSM the name and number of the person you spoke to and the eact story. He/she will most likely deal with that BMs poor attitude.

I talked to my BN Retention NCO he says that I can't hotline or option-3 the reclass, because CID isn't on the BEAR program. He also told me that 74D is on the BEAR program and its more of a priority then CID, but 74D isn't on the BEAR program last time I checked. I don't think he knows too much about his job, can I go to any Retention person or do I have to use him?

My respect for branch managers has severely plummeted in the last 6 months. Mine has been sitting on my reassignment since February. I'm a perfectly deployable soldier, and there's a soon-deploying MP unit right down the street from me that's only at 58%!! Everytime me or my HR guy calls her, she says she thought I wanted to go to school, so she was waiting for the 4187. So I just put in for school. If it get's disapproved... I'm gonna flip.

But enough about me Big Grin... I like AR's suggestion. I wouldn't recommend directly calling thier supervisor; not because you'll get in trouble, but because they're possibly more out of whack then your BM is. I called my BM's supervisor, and she didn't even know their fax number.

Did you talk with a Career Counselor (with a badge on the right breast pocket) of with a Reenlistment NCO?

RMB Message 07-05 (Change 1), paragraph 2b(3) (Option 3 Army Training (MOS Producing)) states:
If desired training is not offered through RETAIN and Soldier is fully qualified for requested MOS, submit an Offline Option Hotline form to Category OPT3 and decision will be made based upon strengths and available school seats.
